INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHIATRIC REHABILITATION

INTRODUCTION

The Association for Psychiatric Rehabilitation (Singapore) or APRS (www.aprs.org.sg) is a non-profit organisation set up on 22 April 2003 with the main objective in promoting and supporting community oriented psycho-social rehabilitation for the persons with psychiatric disabilities. The APRS Committee comprises of professionals from government institutions and voluntary welfare organisations providing mental health services. To achieve its mission, APRS seeks to provide psychiatric rehabilitation courses to enhance the knowledge and skills of practitioners working in mental health and social service agencies.

Objective

Evidence shows that psychiatric rehabilitation services improve a person’s potential for recovery. Psychiatric rehabilitation is based on principles that respect the capacity of every person to learn and grow, and to make independent choices on matters that are important. This training will equip practitioners with the relevant knowledge and skills in psychiatric rehabilitation so as to positively change the lives of individuals with serious mental health issues to one of hope, self-determination, empowerment and recovery.

Course Outline

The INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHIATRIC REHABILITATION is a 3-day course (Total of 21hrs) that focuses on 7 essential domains:-

Training Methodology

Case managers, Counsellors, Social Workers, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Rehab Programme Executives, Employment Specialists, Psychiatrists and Caregiver Coordinators or Facilitators.

Minimum 20 participants and maximum 40 participants
